Food and Formation

Each month, we will gather for a time of Food and Formation – lunch and learning – in the Activity Center following our 10:30 a.m. worship service.

We kicked off our 2022 fall season with our own Dr. Jennifer Sciubba discussing her new book, 8 Billion and Counting: How Sex, Death and Migration Shape our World. Her book and this enlightening discussion help to promote a deeper understanding of fertility, mortality, and migration promises to point toward the societal investments we need to make today to shape the future we want tomorrow.

Future Food and Formation learning Sundays will include welcoming Bob Lee, as he shares the story of his journey to healing and forgiveness following his wife’s 1999 abduction and killing (This most timely conversation for our community allows us to engage with Bob’s story as it has been memorialized in the book, At Road’s End, written by David Wayne Brown.), and welcoming Bishop Phoebe, on her Annual Visitation Sunday.

Come join us for presentations on interesting and enlightening topics, engaging conversations, and, of course, lunch!

Reading with the Rector

Tuesdays, 7:00 p.m. Usually gathering on the first Tuesday of each month, this time of discussion and reflection allows participants to reflect on theological themes of popular books and share the ways in which these stories – fiction and non-fiction – affect us, resonate with us, and cause us to reflect on our own lives and our journey with Christ. The fall season began with a discussion of Brian McLaren’s Do I Stay Christian?: A Guide for the Doubters, the Disappointed, and the Disillusioned. Upcoming discussions will include a timely look at Javier Zamora’s book, Solito, which describes his migration – as a 9-year-old – from war-torn El Salvador to the United States, to be reunited with his parents.

Tuesday Book Club

Join this women’s group that meets monthly to discuss a wide range of book selections! Come and enjoy reading selections such as memoirs, biographies, novels, classics and best-sellers. Authors are often special guests. To view a Book Club List for 2022-23 please click here

Students enroll for one year at a time, and remit the course fee at the time of enrollment. The program, offered through the University of the South, offers the opportunity for participants to deepen their faith, develop their own theologies, and begin to identify the areas of ministry to which God is calling them. EfM meets Mondays, 6:45 p.m. in Classroom C.

Studies include the Old Testament, New Testament, Church History and What It Means to be a Christian today, along with worship, sharing prayer concerns and theological reflection. Evenings for the Community

Our engaging interfaith dialogues, featuring Christian, Jewish and Muslim clergy, which we began in September 2016, have brought enlightening conversation to our community, beginning with “The Children of Abraham,” and continuing with “Moses” and “Seeking Justice, Seeking Peace.” Please watch for announcements of the next in our series of community interfaith dialogues.
